drug problem: super interview
Filed Under information share, soap box | Leave a Comment
My Dad is a Psychiatrist, aka: a shrink. And he is of the mind (and I share his mind on this one) that there is a terrible drug problem that nobody talks about. And I mean prescription drugs. And by prescription drugs I don’t mean the kind that you can purchase via your email spam, but I mean the kind that often get prescribed by doctors. Without going into too much detail over the issues that my Dad witnesses and works with everyday (shocking sometimes!), here is a fabulous interview with a psychiatrist who shares my Dad’s and my view on the subject of drug companies and the field of Psychiatry. Please click here and give the interview a listen (longer) or a read the highlights (shorter), because this topic is very important to me and so under-discussed…
Thank you NPR for the interview and thank you, Dr Carlat, for your book, Unhinged: The Trouble With Psychology, which I can’t wait to read.

This is lululemon’s January ad, which I think is funny…
I also *love* it because, just like Obama, yoga is all about taking action for change…

Anything is possible, but you can’t sit back and expect someone else to do it – you’ve got to act. Action brings progress and change. We’re all in it together, with a phenomenal leader. Let’s go for it!

go vote.
Filed Under soap box, what's the meaning of the word | 3 Comments
Here is what it means to *vote*…
–noun
1. a formal expression of opinion or choice, either positive or negative, made by an individual or body of individuals
2. the means by which such expression is made
3. the right to such expression
4. the decision reached by voting, as by a majority of ballots cast
5. a collective expression of will as inferred from a number of votes
6. an expression, as of some judgment: a vote of confidence.
–verb (used without object)
7. to express or signify will or choice in a matter, as by casting a ballot: to vote for president.
–verb (used with object)
8. to enact, establish, or determine by vote
9. to support by one’s vote
10. to advocate by or as by one’s vote
I called Colorado voters for my candidate…the least you can do is go vote for yours!

Whatever your opinion, the important thing to me is that you go and vote.
Your opinion matters. Exercise your right!

Seriously. I really can’t stand her. You know, the “vplif”.
I get most of my information on politics from my smart boyfriend, who reads about everything news related on the web, literally…everything. And then he shares the important stuff with me. This saves me a lot of time.
Anyway, today, as we drove down to Laguna Beach to see Amanda, Mike, Nate, Danny and Rachel, he read an article off his iPhone {more on that later} about Sarah Palin giving a speech in Carson City, Nevada. As he was reading I got so agitated I had to tell him to stop. He chuckled and kept reading and I said, “No, seriously, please stop. I can’t listen to it anymore.”
I hope you agree that the President of the United States shouldn’t be “just like me” {which Sarah P. definitely is not}, but rather, should be the smartest fucking person in the room. An elite politician, yes. And if you don’t agree, then just know that I love you, but we probably shouldn’t discuss politics.
Anyway, as I step off my soap box now and attempt to keep this light and enjoyable, here is something that I love very, very much on this same subject…
Tina and Amy for President!

I get it. I have been sucked into watching various reality shows myself. I understand that they’re addictive and habit forming, but this is an entertainment industry epidemic that needs to be cured!
Did you know that over half of the primetime shows on television are reality shows?
I find this to be embarrassing for our society. Why? Because in most of these so-called reality shows, the “stars” act in obscene, drunken, ridiculous, extreme or immature ways and yet society as a whole continues to watch.
I have been silent with my opinions about this matter for a very long time, but I can quiet myself no longer…
TV producers want to produce reality tv because it’s cheaper than producing an actual tv show with actors, costumers, writers (aka: talent). Would you like to know why it’s gotten harder and harder for actors to get work? Because there are fewer and fewer shows using them!
The only way to stop this reality show trend is for people to stop watching them! So please, as a friend and blog reader of this actress…don’t watch reality TV.
