crappy halloween.

Boo! hoo…I’m pouting because it’s Halloween and I don’t have any fun plans. No costume to be worn. No place to celebrate with friends. Just teaching in Chicago…

I miss this guy… And I need a makeover…

RJ cute makeover needed

Seriously. I feel like I’ve hit a wall when it comes to fashion, beauty and style. I used to have fun with clothes and make-up and getting dressed to go places. I feel like I’ve lost my sense of style. I just put on workout clothes, throw my hair up and go. I need a makeover, but I can’t spend a lot of money. Any ideas or thoughts out there from my female friends? (Sorry guys, this isn’t really your issue or expertise, I don’t think. But perhaps I’m wrong?)

Or maybe it’s just that I gave up soda, so I’m going through withdrawl? (10 days!)

The fact that nobody who might actually understand this title will read this entry is ok with me! I get it…and it makes me laugh.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago there was a reunion of sorts. Some of my dearest grad school classmates and I all happened to be in the same city at the same time. So we had dinner at Amanda’s house in Laguna Beach.

Here we are. I give you one guess what we studied…silly actors. But we had such a great time! It seriously felt like no time had passed since we moped through the hallways together. (I say moped because actors take themselves way too seriously. Especially when being scrutinized by a faculty of other artists.)

Though, post graduation, with a few years under our belts, we all seem rather well adjusted, don’t you think?

cool new city, cool new show

Well, I’ve been in Chicago now for about 1.5 days and I like it so very much. I already knew I liked Chicago ~ I came here during college for a post term study one summer, and of course, I’ve been here a couple of times now for work, but they were so short I couldn’t do anything but work and sleep.

I like how friendly strangers are here. And it feels so sincere.

I’m living in our corporate apartment and my favorite thing is that everyone talks to me in the elevator. They say hello and then “have a good day” upon exiting. And these people don’t know me, it’s just that we’re sharing an elevator in a place people call home. In the elevator in my condo building, where you’d think I might get to know people, my neighbors behave as if I’ve asked them to borrow a lot of money when I say hello in our elevator. They look at me with fear and I can see the momentary fight over how to respond to me. It’s so unfortunate. I like the Chicago elevator better.

And tonight I went out for a walk in the rain (cause we don’t get much of that in LA) and at the street corner, a man started to tease me about wearing a scarf. I admit, it probably wasn’t that cold, but I’m from LA, so everything feels cold and I told him so. He proceeded to tell me the history of the area for the next three blocks until he turned and went South and I went North. He had no agenda other than to talk to me while we shared the sidewalk.

My other favorite event of the evening occured just before it started to rain.

At the height of traffic I was sitting on my couch quietly, when all of a sudden, loud yelling, horn blowing and music raised up from the street below my balcony. I thought is might be some wild happy hour revelers, but it kept on longer than normal. I stepped outside into the crisp, chilly air and found a sea of bicycles flowing down Jefferson. It was critical mass. I haven’t seen a critical mass bicycle ride since I lived in San Francisco and this one made those attempts look paltry. This was huge and really shut down the traffic. I took these pictures…

I love a city with spirit!

After I returned from my happy walk in the rain (with a big bag of peanut butter m&ms), I watched all the episodes of the new show Pushing Daisies. And it’s my new favorite show. It’s fresh, fun and cleverly stylized. Me likey muchisimo!

You can watch it for free online or on Wednesday nights…

re-cap

Well, it’s been a whirlwind. And it’s not over yet. Tomorrow I head back to Chi-town (that’s Chicago) for 2 weeks. Yep - 2 weeks for work. Sigh.

So, since I owe y’all lots of stories, I’ll quickly re-cap the last 2 weeks…

*Audition for “Speed-the-Plow”: went great, felt good, had fun, got called back to read for the director, felt good again, so this was all a huge success.

*Had an open house for work: at a fun venue, danced in the movement demos, let loose with my friends and RJ, fun times, crazy pictures.

*Audition for “Importance Of…”: felt ok, long drive to Orange County, old-school director, realized during the audition that I don’t really like that play very much, drove back to LA, probably didn’t get called back, don’t mind.

*Flew to NYC: introduced new curriculums, helped coordinate demos, facilitated a teacher meeting, hung out with Lindsey twice!, saw Mike Chmiel, had fun, lost sleep, forgot to take pictures.

*Southern California is on fire, literally: Called Liz to be sure she and her house were ok down in San Diego, she and Ricky (and dog) are safely staying at her parents’ house in Pasadena, so many people are evacuated, bad air quality, scary, fires make the temperature very hot everywhere.

*Rhiannon & Jeff got engaged: saw a beautiful picture of the ring via email, Congratulations!!!!!

So that’s it in a nut shell. Sorry to be so brief, but life is happening and I can’t seem to keep up with it on my blog.

Big love

Whoa. So it’s been a wild week of tumult. Between work and travel and house guests and auditions, I have been riding quite the emotional roller coaster.

I know I owe you the story of my callback last week and the story of my second audition from today. I promise I will write soon, but right now I am about to go jump on a plane for an unfortunately quick trip to New York City…

When I get back, stories. I promise.
