no more fun…

Condo living is so irritating sometimes.
There will be no more pool parties at #106…Why?
Here are the pool area rules I broke this weekend:
#2. Please use good sense and manners at all times when in the area. And remember, due to all the hard surfaces, sounds echo and amplify in the area, which disturbs all the residents whose units overlook this area. (We were very well mannered and were not yelling or screaming or even playing music. My parents were there for God’s sake).
#4. Neither food nor drink is allowed in the pool itself. (Ok, so this one is reasonable ~ I actually broke it myself, by carrying a tasty cup of homemade margarita in my hand as I swam the kids around the pool ~ oops. Sorry. Won’t do it again…)
#14. The number of people allowed in the pool at any one time is four, as filter cannot handle more than that according to the pool man. (Really? That’s ridiculous.)
#18. (my favorite) Each resident is allowed to have 2 guests in the pool area at any one time. This is a private pool, not a public one, and is meant for the enjoyment of the building’s residents. (But for my enjoyment, I’d like to have company) The presence of outsiders means less elbow room in the pool and less access to the patio furniture (oh yeah, ’cause the residents are totally fighting for pool time ~ ha!), not to mention the increased noise level (Shhh. Be very, very quiet). (So basically, I bought a place where I can’t invite people over to share the water & sun because the old Russians are ornery and boring.)
During the party, somebody passive-aggressively taped the “Pool Rules” on my door, highlighting the rules they found me to be breaking.
And they were right, I was breaking these rules. But in my opinion, they are really, really, stupid rules. I understand the need for a curfew in the pool area, but seriously, at 2pm on Memorial Day weekend you’re gonna complain about some childlike noises and chatting on the lounge chairs. Not to be totally uncouth, but, f%$k that.
HOAs suck enough. Why oh why did I have to end up in this extra uptight HOA?
Grrrrr. I suppose I will have to enjoy my lounge chairs all alone from now on…
30 is good…

So I woke up on Saturday and felt good. I feel good being thirty! And my birthday weekend was perfect…
I spent Saturday playing with my parents and R. I also picked up my friend Mike at the airport, who was visiting from NYC for Saba & Neil’s wedding. And it was lovely! There were gorgeous flowers, belly dancers, touching speeches, Persian music to dance to, and the best of all, a very happy groom and a exquisitely beautiful bride.
Then on Sunday, I hung out by the pool with my parents, R’s family and some S Factor girls.
And Monday? Monday I rested, sat around and went to see Pirates 3.

Three days of birthday fun. One for each decade.
P.S. A very Happy 30th Birthday to my dear Gemini sister Jenni today! Celebrate wildly with your pink fingernails, dance freely and eat a little too much cake…
only one day left

That’s what’s been running through my head this week.
*(I know there are only 20 candles here, but I couldn’t fit anymore. And I’m still in denial)

She doesn’t know it, but Emily really helped me out with the idea of using a simple cat bed to curb black cat hair on my white couches.
I did not believe that Mr. Marceau would take to a bed. I figured he would either sit next to the little bed or avoid it altogether. But Emily said her kitties took to them very well and…

So did Marceau. He sleeps in it every chance he gets.
Thank you, Emily!
how does your garden grow?

This weekend I tended my garden. I have a rather small, but sweet patio space. Since moving in I have to admit I have paid it almost no attention. I am actually suprised that so many of the plants are still alive. Before I sent some love and sweat out onto the patio, there was dirt and ‘gunk’ everywhere. A few of the plants were dried up. It was not inviting or colorful. But, a little bit of work can go a long, long way.

First, I swept up a ton of dirt, leaves and general yuckiness. Then I moved the plants from around the side and brought them to where you can see them from my couch. I moved my little table and chairs to the side in order to create a little nook. Finally, I potted some flowers to add color and got a fresh and vibrant doormat.
